Utah Crime Analysis
Utah Crime Incident Rate Analysis (2007–2019)
This project analyzes crime incident rates across Utah municipalities to answer the question: Do crime rates vary by season, city, or year?
Using data from the Utah Open Data Portal and U.S. Census Bureau population estimates, we assembled a custom dataset covering ~20 cities from 2007 to 2019. A two-way ANOVA on log-transformed incident rates (per 100,000 residents) revealed that city and year are significant predictors of crime, while season is not.

Key Finding
Crime incident rates in Utah vary significantly by city and year (p < 0.001), but season has no statistically significant effect on crime rates.
This suggests that targeted, city-level policies are more relevant than seasonal interventions.
